All the races of dog have their poins weak and Shar-Pei does not make departures from the rule. This is why, we propose here some instructions to you on the care to bring to your dog. Attention, the recourse to self medication will not have to in no case, to be systematic and it will have to apply only to benign affections. To in no case it will not have to be privileged with the veterinary diagnosis. The long list which follows should not throw you into a panic because it gathers many possible pathologies. It is to be excluded that only one dog develops them at the same time all !!! The love and the goodwill sufficient step, it is necessary for my direction attentive being on the following points, without for all this that turns to obsession...

    Eyes :

The entropion is with the friction of the ocular sphere with the higher or lower eyelid which was turned over inside. The lashes permanently irritate the eye involving keratites and ulcers (with with long, serious deteriorations of the cornea). This is why preventive method employed, even if it can seem " barbarian " brings relief and comfort for the pup  That also avoids possible damage of the cornea due to permanent irritations. It is between twentieth and the thirtieth days following the birth of the pup that one places some points of joining on his higher eyelids in order to avoid the contact of the lashes on his eyes.

This technique is all the more optimal when it is practised on a young pup, however, larger dogs and even adults can profit from it. It is essential to stress that the entropion is not a fate and that considerable Shar-Pei never do not need points.... In a general way,  it is recommended to clean in a weekly way the eyes so that natural secretions do not macerate with the corner of the eyes. The held eyes too often closed must in all the cases alert and the pupil must always be limpid, free from opacity. In case of doubt,  do not hesitate to consult your veterinary surgeon.

    Labial correction :

When the end of the lower lip overflows on the lower teeth until entirely covering them, the chewing becomes painful for the dog. It is then necessary to resort to the surgery.

This operation improves the chewing of the dog.

    Ears :

Their ahead established particular forms prevent the expulsion of the cerumen. In order to avoid the otitises, it is enough to be as vigilant as for the eyes. The ears are not cleaned with compress but with cotton soaked with a specific lotion which one finds in all pharmacies. An outer ear irritated or with a superabundance of cerumen whose return to the normal  is long in coming, always requires a consultation veterinary surgeon.

    Skin :

A regular examination of the skin and hairs must be practised especially around the puberty (5-6 month) where deficiencies out of iron and the hormonal disordered states related to the growth can involve a skinwool. If you note a loss of hairs important, by plates, make practise a taking away of skin by your veterinary surgeon who will adapt the adequate treatment. In prevention, and on the councils of the stockbreeder, our dogs followed a cure of homeopathy around 4 months in order to stimulate their immunizing defenses, because the SP does not have natural defense against this skinwool. On the other hand, if the loss of hairs is very localised, it acts certainly of a mycosis or of a démodécie and there, the best reflex is to bring the dog in the Veterinary surgeon so that it carries out a taking away of skin or hairs. Indeed, it is really necessary to practise a thorough examination in order to adapt the adequate treatment to the problem. Even if we prefer to look after our dogs by homeopathy, moments ago when nothing is worth a good old man microscope!!!!

    The skeleton :

Small Shar-Pei will have to be " well dodu ", however, a "heavy" dog too can develop tendineux problems. It is necessary to be vigilant for the balances and if the foot "is crushed", a supplement of Calcium and Vitamice C could be prescribed by the Veterinary surgeon.  Taken in time, all returns generally quickly in the order.

    Breathing :

The Shar-Pei pup has a very noisy breathing which can make think of asthma. It of it is nothing and one should not especially manage to him of antibiotic. In fact, these whistles disappear in the 5-6 month old neighbourhoods. On the other hand, for the whirrs, we can only advise you the purchase of " Quies balls ", not for him, but for you !!!!!! Because your small buzzer will continue to whirr all its life.

    The sleep :

Shar-Pei although being a "rustic" dog is not less one "delicate" dog, also, it is strongly disadvised making it sleep with the cold, or in the draughts. The pup is accustomed to sleep at the house or in a covered and heated place. If you want to make it sleep outside, made rather in spring, and especially when it is adult.

    Vaccinations :

At the time of your purchase, the pup will have received its first vaccines, it will be vermifugé and pucé. Nevertheless, we quickly advise you a visit in the veterinary surgeon in order to plan with him the recalls of vaccinations to come, as well as a preventive program (pest-destroying and vermifuge). Moreover, we can only strongly advise you with the arrival of spring to consult your veterinary surgeon in order to practise a vaccine against Leishmaniose and as of the 6 months of the dog, the vaccine against piroplasmosis (disease transmitted by the ticks) can prove to be essential according to the way of life of your dog or your geographical area. The recent case of rage in the Western South also forces to make practise the anti-rabic vaccine.

    The fever :

The pup can be prone to unexplained fevers, unknown origins. We did not have to personally try out them until now, but knowing that they exist always address to your veterinary surgeon in order to be had under the hand, of what to stop them if necessary. The fever owes disparaitre at the end of 12 midnight. These fevers are comparable with the Mediterranean fevers at the human ones but they disappear at the adulthood.

    Food :

If you want to avoid expenses of veterinary surgeons and to keep your dog in good health, that passes by a food of quality. This is why, on the matter it is advisable not to look at the price but the composition of food given (to check particularly : the water content, ideally lower than 10 ; proteins and the fat content which must be weak because of the particular nature of the skin of Shar-Pei). We will not give you elaborate receipts insofar as the croquettes are very complete food and has all the vitamins necessary (to avoid to the maximum the boxes which are allergisantes).

Will know however, that all the croquettes are not worth as well from the nutritive point of view gustatory. It is very important that the food contain less than fat content 20%.  A too fatty croquette can involve the skinwool in your dog. Moreover, their bad digestion involves a bad breath and a very strong body odor (as well as flatulences !!!).

Vinka straightforwardly refused to feed with its arrival even with veterinary food (it was necessary to make a subtle mixture of " cow which laughs " with the croquettes so that it agrees to eat....). Only, Proplan  obtained its favours like those of our other Shar-Pei. However,  Eukanuba, Pedrigrée Stake and Canine Royal can be some other food suggestions. For the whole of these marks, to take of the " Puppy " until the 4 months age, then to pass directly to the formulas " Adult ". Though it is, the pup eats 3 times per day up to 6 months, then 2 times per day (it is preferable to divide the ration day labourer in order to avoid torsions of the stomach).

To always leave water fraiche and suitable for provision of your dog
